The One-Finger Salute

Thumbs up to the 60th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in major team sports in the United States.

Thumbs up to the erratic weather we’ve had over the past week. Yes, it’s been a little rainy, maybe windier than usual and colder than we’d like — but at least it’s not hot.

Thumbs down to Don Imus, both for his racially insensitive comments about the Rutger̢۪s women̢۪s basketball team and his perpetually-offensive hair cut.

Thumbs down to Larry Birkhead̢۪s reaction when a paternity test last week revealed him to be the father of Dannielyn Smith. Would a little tact be too much to ask for? With this story, probably.

Thumbs up to the great responses we’re getting for the Gwen Stefani Sweet Escape Tour contest. Keep ‘em coming!

“The One-Finger Salute” is culled each week from discussions in The Collegian newsroom.

A big thumbs up to the Collegian staff for having the balls to say something about media-darling Don Imus. The man’s a menace.
