‘Dogs bites

Track and Field

The Bulldogs tried new events at this weekend̢۪s Cal State Stanislaus Invitational, bringing new players to the spotlight.

Grace Wiesmann and Angie Larsen won the hammer throw and javelin, respectively. Wiesmann won by nearly eight meters, Larsen by almost 10.

Dave Endler continued his successful season by winning three events: shot put, discus and hammer.

Bulldogs Ryan Rupich and Andrew Pancotti shared a 4.85-meter pole vault win.

The Bulldogs compete in the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. on Friday.

Baseball

Despite having one less hit than UC Davis, Fresno State took home a 4-3 win Tuesday afternoon.

It was the second win for the Bulldogs against the Aggies this year.

Fresno State took the lead in the second inning when Ozzie Lewis scored on Alan Ahmady̢۪s left field single.

The Aggies and Bulldogs battled back and forth, with Fresno State clinching the win in the seventh thanks to a walk by Ahmady.Fresno State begins a three-game series against Hawaii on Friday at 6:05 p.m.

Women’s Tennis

Fresno State women̢۪s tennis is 12th in the nation according to ratings released late last week.

Bulldogs sophomore Melanie Gloria is on a 12-match winning streak and holds the No. 2 spot nationally. Gloria also holds the 26th spot in doubles with teammate Tinesta Rowe.

Freshmen Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukhova are climbing the national ranks as well, now ranked No. 41 and No. 66, respectively.

Fresno State will host Santa Clara on Friday and a doubleheader with Loyola Marymount and Saint Mary̢۪s on Saturday.

Women’s Golf

The Fresno State women̢۪s golf team made its final preparations for the upcoming WAC Championships when it competed at the Peg Barnard Collegiate last weekend.

Fresno State placed ninth out of 13 teams at the two-day event held in Stanford, Calif.

The Bulldogs were led by junior Laura Luethke, whose two-day score of 149 — seven strokes over par — catapulted her into a 19th-place finish.

Fresno State̢۪s other three competitors: Jennifer Shipley, Taylor Siebert and Tiffany Veerkamp each finished with scores of 152.
