Men̢۪s Basketball Preview

Fresno State̢۪s NIT appearance is the Bulldogs first postseason appearance since the 2001-2002 season. The Bulldogs will rely on forwards Quinton Hosley and Dominic McGuire to provide the scoring and match up with Georgia̢۪s athletic scorers. Fresno State will also need consistent outside shooting from Eddie Miller and Hector Hernandez to open up the paint for McGuire.

Georgia is led by 6’8″ post-player Takais Brown. The junior forward shot nearly 57 percent from the field and averaged 14.1 points per game this season. The loss of forward Mike Mercer, who suffered a season-ending knee injury late in the season, has shortened Georgia’s bench. Guards Levi Stukes and Sundiata Gaines have bolstered their scoring in Mercer’s absence.

The ‘Dogs sure got that outside shooting from Double H and Eddie, but that wasn’t enough with what probably was Q’s worst performance of the season. You’ve got to feel for a guy who plays that hard every single night and has to end his career with a loss in front of a pathetic crowd in Georgia.

Speaking of which, can you believe the NIT gave Georgia a home game with 2,500 fans in a 10,500-seat arena!? Fresno State would have probably sold out the 16,000-plus seat Save Mart Center (or at least cover VERY close) with a name opponent like Georgia coming to town. Oh, and Fresno State would have won in front of its home crowd.

The game was a debacle. 2,500 fans only? All-time FS record for ‘tres’ coupled with a ten-point loss? This begs the question if Fresno’s athletics will ever again be ‘above-average.’ The performace sucked. The TV coverage sucked when the commentator thought Dominic McGuire was ‘Dominique.’ ESPN has truly started to suck lately. World Series of Poker? BassMaster fishing? These psuedo-sports suck big ones. The NIT is a debacle and shameful. 32 teams fighting for the prize of 67th place team in the country? Totally sucky concept.
