Leaving home can be difficult, but it can also be exciting. Moving to a new, unfamiliar place brings new challenges such as, "where is there to go for fun?" Where are the nearest restaurants, movie theatres or shopping malls? Are there any nearby parks or art museums?

A memorial service was held in honor of the late Dr. Phillip Walker in the Dennis Cheryl Woods Theatre Sunday. The service celebrated the life and character of Walker who was a professor in the theatre arts department for 40 years at Fresno State.

Driving in off Clovis Avenue from Highway 99, the campus seemed to rise out of vineyards and dust as a young Terry Miller approached Fresno to sample the heat for the first time. It was the summer of 1969, and Miller, fresh from UC Berkeley, was coming to meet his colleagues in the theatre department. This was his first real job. He knew nothing about Fresno, nothing about Fresno State.

Friday night was the first showing of the Portable Dance Troupe (PDT) performance of Dances on the Edge, a presentation reflecting the current social and political situation in our country.

Creativity ‘emerging’

This year’s 'Emerging Choreographers 2007' will feature 18 dances in styles ranging from ballet to hip hop. Fresno State’s University Dance Theatre class gives students of all majors a chance to express their creativity through dance, some even choreographing –– which includes teaching the dance and even planning the costumes. In the above photo, Lexie Verdian takes the stage.
