University HOPE helps build homes

University HOPE (Housing OPportunities through Education) is a non-profit organization with a mission to “give families hope one house at a time.” The organization builds homes for low-income families in an effort to improve neighborhoods.

By now the excitement of the beginning of a new school year has worn off, and students are starting to count down the days until their first paper or first big test is due. All the Greek rush events, clubs fairs and student involvement days are over and it may seem that involvement opportunities are scarce because their visibility has been reduced. This is not the case!

Toys for Tots donation shortage

This Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, the Bulldog Pantry will host its annual holiday party for children and families in our community. Each year, the pantry provides toys to children attending the party through the Toys for Tots program. Due to a shortfall in donations to Toys for Tots, the pantry only received 100 toys this year. The Bulldog Pantry is expecting 300 children.

Last month our daughter Teresa, a junior nutrition major, and her two roommates were forced to use their problem-solving skills when their University Bulldog apartment across the street from the school was gutted by fire.
