Status of popular literature as art: dubious

Compromise between sexes key in decorating

Compromise between sexes key in decorating

IT IS NOT uncommon for guys to go to college and decorate their dorm rooms or apartments with super heroes, movie posters or scantily clad chicks.

It is also not uncommon for guys in middle school to decorate their rooms the same way.

What is the deal with guys decorating their rooms like they are 12? Is it really that cool to have your favorite band, movie or half-naked girl above your bed?

The question of the day is this: when are you too old for all this kid stuff?

Most girls hate the posters, and wish that their guys would have left them at their parents’ houses.
Let’s look at the stereotypes: guys never really grow up, plain and simple.

Now, that is not a bad thing. You need to embrace your youth, live your life how you want to while you can.

And besides, who really cares what someone else thinks, you have to live with it.

So why is it such a big deal?

Girls want security, they want someone to take care of them and they want to know that they are dating a grown up. It is just human nature and girls can’t help it.

I know what you are thinking: I am a girl. I do not care that my boyfriend’s walls are covered in girls, super heroes and movie posters.

Why am I so different? Let’s just say that I have my reasons.

I work in a “home decorating” store. I won’t disclose which one, but young girls, young guys, old women and old men; people single, married or in-between — I’ve helped them all decorate their homes.

Let me tell you, there are some awesome trends and there are some not-so-awesome trends.

There are things that guys are drawn to and there are things that girls are drawn to, but one thing I tell everyone is go with your gut. If you don’t like it, how are you going to live with it?

So what if your girlfriend doesn’t like the life-size Heidi Klum right next to your bed?

If she doesn’t like it, tough — you know she has Justin on the ceiling above her bed so she can see him before she goes to sleep anyway.

The other question that comes up is: when you get married do you have to give up the posters, the girls or the black lights?

No. Compromise.

The secret to keeping everyone happy is to each have your own space.

Guys, you can decorate one room with girls, cars, movies, whatever you can think of. Girls, you can have one room to decorate with flowers or candles or Chippendales, whatever floats your boat.

So let’s wrap it up, guys decorate however you want.

Don’t worry about your girlfriend getting mad. Worry about how much of your wall is not covered up yet.

Let the questions in your mind be: “To put Carmen Electra or Brooke Burke on the ceiling? Or both?”
And girls, let your man have his room.

Don’t bother him with questions like “aren’t you too old for this stuff?” We already know what the answer will be.

You are never too old to have fun.
