Scavenging for condoms, dental floss on campusBy Morgen Steger When you’re having trouble finding your 8 a.m. class, locating anything else on campus — some much-needed dental floss, a condom or a safe place to nap — can seem daunting. Don’t search in vain — The Collegian scavenged Fresno State for you. A haircut Updating students’ coiffeurs between classes is the charge of Pro Hair & Nails, located on the bottom floor of the University Student Union. The salon, open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday, offers haircuts starting at $9, manicures, pedicures and other services. Dental floss Don’t spend the day with something green stuck between your two front teeth, emergency rations of dental floss can be found on the bottom level of the Kennel Bookstore. The floss, along with deodorant, bandages and tampons, can save the day, as long as your hygienic emergency occurs during bookstore hours. The bookstore is open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Cash The Golden 1 Credit Union office, located on the bottom floor of the student union, offers accounts to Fresno State students and a handy, and often busy, ATM. To join the credit union you must have a valid ID, be a California resident and a full-time student. Non-credit union members can use the ATM but they may be charged a fee. The credit union is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, except Wednesday, when it’s open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. A Heineken Beer is no longer for sale at Bulldog Stadium, but it’s still on tap at The Bucket Grill and Pub. The pub, open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday, sells a handful of different libations, including Coors, Budweiser and Sierra Nevada beers, as well as Fresno State wines. A couch to nap on Sleeping in the student union surrounded by gobs of other students not your style? The Women’s Resource Center’s comfy lounge area caters to students in need of a nap or just a place to hang out. The center, located in the University Center building, also has two computers for student use and offers drop-in peer counseling. It's open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Condoms Prophylactics and wallet-friendly over-the-counter medications can be purchased at the pharmacy in the Student Health Center. Take your pick — five condoms or 100 aspirin for $1. The Student Heath Center, open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., also offers medical exams, immunizations, psychological services and prescription drugs. A foreign film The Henry Madden Library shelves may be book-bare during the renovation but the music and media library, located on the third floor is chock-full of movies and music spanning all genres. The library has a collection of 17,000 CDs, including classical, opera and Tupac Shakur. Students can check out DVD and VHS movies and CDs for three days. The media library is open during regular library hours. Something to do Get a life outside of class — join a club or intramural sports team. From the Chemistry Club to the Ultimate Frisbee Club, contact information is available at the Student Activities Office on the third floor of the student union, room 306. Spring intramural sports sign-ups start in January. Sports offered in spring include basketball, soccer, inner tube water polo, team tennis, softball, racquetball, dodgeball and pingpong.
