The Fresno State soccer team came up short in a round of penalty kicks against Nevada, surrendering what would have been an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Instead, the Bulldogs will rely on a committee to give them an at-large bid into the tournament, which will field 62 teams.
Fresno State ends its season 13-6-2, having recorded their 16th shutout of season and remaining unscored upon in nine conference games.
Fresno State came on strong early in the game, keeping possession for almost 10 minutes after gaining control of the opening kickoff. Fresno State also had to attempts to score early on in the match.
Nevada rebounded from the early Bulldogs’ attack, but lost the chance to score thanks to a save from Fresno State goalie Angie Larsen. The Wolf Pack’s Samantha Miller also shot wide in another attempt.
In the second half a Fresno State opportunity cleared the Wolf Pack’s goaltender but was bounced off the crossbar.
In overtime, the Bulldogs’ Chelsea Davis and Cortney Sobrero were both denied on scoring attempts, which led to the penalty kicks.
