Gloria moves up to round of 16

Fresno State tennis player Melanie Gloria swept past Wisconsin’s Caitlin Burke, 6-3, 6-0, to advance to the round of 16 of the ITA Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio, Thursday.

Gloria received an initial challenge from Burke, who broke Gloria’s serve in the first game before being overmatched by Gloria.

“Melanie started a little slow, but then she got right on track,” said assistant coach Chantel Wiggins. “She was nearly flawless in the second set.”

With the win, Gloria’s fall season record improves to 9-2.

Up next for Gloria is a semi-final match-up with 14th-ranked Zuzana Cerna of Baylor.
