While Fresno State might appear to be a typical school, it distinguishes itself from the other 23 California State University Schools with its luscious greenery throughout the campus.
Fresno State has about 4,000 trees of 100 different varieties and thousands of other flowers lined up against acres of grass both on and off campus.
Tree Fresno is an organization that involves the community and encourages participation to revive the cities throughout Fresno County by recruiting volunteers to plant trees.
At the same time, Tree Fresno also educates the public about proper maintenance and care of trees.
“Our number one goal is to plant as many trees around Fresno,” Jamie Gregory, of Tree Fresno, said.
Tree Fresno has been a non-profit organization for over 21 years and will hold a walk at Fresno State to encourage more people to visit the Fresno Arboretum on Saturday, Oct. 21.
The guided walk is free to Tree Fresno members and costs $3 for all nonmembers.
During the walk on Saturday, the organization will be looking at trees and wandering around campus looking.
“We will also be learning how to take care of trees during this walk,” said Susan Stiltz, a certified arborist.
Having these different species of trees and plants, such as crepe myrtle, jacaranda, hemp trees, and Mexican primroses have made Fresno State the “Garden Campus.”
The walk will start at 10 a.m. at the Fresno State Arboretum and will be led by Stiltz.
