Fresno State Women’s Tennis will kick off its 2006 season with the Bulldog Classic today and continuing through Monday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.

Fresno Pacific, Sacramento State and San Jose State will also participate in the competition. Top seed in singles is Jalena Pandzic of Fresno Pacific. Fresno State’s Renata Kucerkova takes the second slot in the 64-individual bracket.

In doubles, 32 will begin the round with Fresno State’s Danon Beatty and Kucerkova in the top slot.

Sacramento State’s Joyce Martinez Gutierrez and Luba Schiffs take the #2 spot.

Head coach Simon Thibodeau said the tournament will be a good opportunity for the Bulldogs to start the year. “I’m excited to get started this weekend,” Tibodeau said.

Competitors for the Bulldogs include sophomore Beatty and freshman Kucerkova and sophomores Bruna Paes and Tinesta Rowe and freshman Vanessa Heroux.

Admission to the tournament is free. Doubles are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. with singles following in the late morning. Updates to the matches will be posted on gobulldogs.com.
