The Fresno State women’s soccer team brought home a mixed result from its trip to Utah, defeating opponent BYU after losing to the Utah Utes.
The Utes defeated the Bulldogs 2-0 Friday, scoring their first goal in the 48th minute of the game and the second in the 86th. Fresno State forward Cortney Sobrero took the first shot of the game in the sixth minute and earned the team the first corner-kick of the game.
Overall the Bulldogs took the same total number of shots as the Utes but proved unable to score.
Fresno State goalkeeper Angie Larsen finished the match with three saves, one more than the Utah goalkeeper.
Saturday the Bulldogs took on Brigham Young University as the second match of their road trip.
Fresno State took advantage of a strong effort early in the match with Sobrero scoring her third goal of the season and the only one of the match.
The BYU Cougars out shot Fresno State 11-2 in the first half of the game but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities.
The shutout win gave Larsen her fifth of the season and another 10 saves.
The Bulldogs will now embark on a series of home games, next taking on Portland State at 7 p.m. on Friday. The team’s overall record is now 4-1-1.
