Fresno State hockey drops to UC Davis in Save Mart Center
By KIM ANDERSON
The Fresno State ice hockey team hosted UC Davis this weekend in a one-time
opportunity to play in Fresno State’s Save Mart Center but fell
just short in a 4-3 loss.
The visiting Aggies were the first to get on the board about 10 minutes
into the first period with a goal scored by junior center Jeff Imahara.
Within four minutes, the Aggies charged the net again and winger Berk
Nelson took a shot that slipped by goaltender Rodrigo Morales to give
Davis a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs came back in the game when junior forward Marcel Bourdase
took a shot from in front of the net, decreasing the Aggies lead to 1.
Going into the second period down 2-1, Fresno State senior forward Wade
Frieson found the net on an Aggies power play and tied the game.
“It was a hard-fought battle” said sophomore forward Dion
Bourdase, “and we battled to the end, but came up short.”
The Aggies took the lead again with about six minutes remaining in the
second period with a goal by Nelson.
Bourdase quickly answered with a Bulldogs goal, scored within two minutes,
assisted by junior defenseman Kevin Keeler.
The Aggies took the lead once again with about five minutes remaining
in the game.
A shot just inside the goal post gave the Aggies their third and final
lead.
“We may have lost this time, but we’ll see Davis in the playoffs”
said Bourdase.
In an attempt to tie up the game, the Bulldogs pulled Morales and put
six men on the ice but were unable to find the net.
The Bulldogs next home game takes place on December 4 at the Gateway Ice
Center against Santa Rosa Junior College.
