Two films, two views, same goal

Pollster sees profit in tight 2004 presidential election race

Two films, two views, same goal

FahrenHYPE 9/11 calls into question certain facts used in Fahrenheit 9/11.

Everything from the Carlyle Group connections, the pipeline contract in Afghanistan, President Bush not reading the Aug. 6, 2001 presidential briefing about al Qaeda, and the headline showing the 2000 election recount was in favor of Al Gore—the College Republicans club hosted a screening of FahrenHYPE 9/11, which serves as a response to Michael Moore’s controversial film, Fahrenheit 9/11.

FahrenHYPE’s purpose is to cast a great deal of doubt on Moore’s honesty, and patriotism, event organizers said. The film showcases opinions from author Ann Coulter, actor Ron Silver, former New York Mayor Ed Koch and Democratic Senator Zell Miller.

The club’s President, Tal Eslick, said unlike Fahrenheit 9/11, HYPE provided sources of the facts about Bush, the Sept. 11 attacks and the Middle East.

“The reason why we showed the film is to provide students something else to think about when it comes to politics,” said Eslick.

Despite the controversy around Fahrenheit 9/11, the Sociology club, along with other campus clubs, will host a free screening of the film today in the Satellite Union at 6 p.m.

“Fahrenheit is a credible source of what is going on in the world today,” Sociology club vice president Liza Bolanos said.
