Jewelry sparkles as spring heats up

Jewelry is just as hot as the weather this season. Stepping outside into the hot, humid 100 degree weather, everyone wants to feel light, carefree and cool.

Send your backpacks packing and your boots walking. Take off the old baggage and add on new, fun, funky jewelry.

The ordinary girl has a watch on her wrist, one or two silver rings on her fingers, a tiny silver necklace and if she’s really lucky, a Tiffanys charm bracelet (I have seen a few around campus).

These are great accessories, and if this person is you, you are on your way to becoming a jewelry fashionista.

However, this spring/summer, add a teaspoon of chains, a tablespoon of sparkle and a cup of color. With this recipe a breeze of cool will follow you to every class.

Being a college student, money is a major problem in most of our wardrobes. Take about $10 to 20 one week and put it toward some new polished jewelry.

For that one weekend, don’t rely on the mall as your first option. Look at the Classified section on The Fresno Bee.

Search for estate sales (somewhat on the creepy side, but well worth it), rummage sales and yard sales.

I guarantee that you will spend $20 at the most and walk away with vintage jewelry that looks brand new and priceless.

If the idea of used jewelry makes you break out in a rash, the mall is a great second option. Forever 21, Charlotte Russe and the fashion jewelry of the department stores have great sales and lots of options so you can pile on different looks every day.

One last bit of advice, take into consideration your birth stone.

If everyone was walking around with identical strands of pearls, diamond earrings and ruby rings what a boring campus this would be. Make your jewelry selection just that; yours.

The birth stone adds your unique take on the jewelry trend.

Remember your stone while you scavenge for new funktified pieces.

Your personality will shine through the new or used turquoise ring you can no longer live without.
