University Village nearly 50 percent leased

University Village held its first open house Tuesday, giving new students as well as current residents an opportunity to tour the complex and model unit. With only four-bedroom, four-bathroom units left, most apartments in the complex have already been rented. “ We’re 50 percent full and plan to fill up by mid-June,” said University Village leasing officer Mary Lou Acosta. Offering cable hook-ups in each bedroom, a furnished living room, a computer lab and numerous study areas, University Village has geared its marketing with students in mind.More>>

 

Amphitheater marked for future University High site

On a typical weekday afternoon, the amphitheater stands alone. A few students walk through on their way to class, but generally it is empty, Dean of Arts and Humanities Luis Costa said. Costa’s office looks upon the amphitheater, which has sat in relative vacancy for many years. An old school hip-hop show scheduled in the amphitheater during this year’s Vintage Days festival was moved to another location. The Vans Warped Tour came to the amphitheater in June 2000. Vice Presidential Candidate Joe Lieberman visited in September of the same year. Various commencement ceremonies have taken place there.More>>

 

The University Village apartment complex had a grand opening Tuesday, during which prospective renters could tour a model unit. Mary Lou Acosta, center, answers questions about what the rooms will look like after completion. The Village is on schedule for completion August 20, the same day leasees can move in. Leases start at $499 per individual, per room.

 

Concert to honor late jazz professor

Fresno State’s Jazz bands A and B, directed by band director Michael Caldwell and Grammy award nominee and trumpeter Bobby Shew will pay tribute to the late music educator Paul Shaghoian at a Memorial Jazz Concert Thursday. If there was anyone in the Fresno music scene who needed no introduction, it was Shaghoian, Caldwell said. After Shaghoian died of a heart attack April 16, Caldwell said he wanted to do something to pay tribute to the friend he lost and the music educator the community lost.More>>

 

Softball to promote violence awareness

Fresno State softball, in association with the Marjaree Mason Center, will spread the word that domestic violence can be stopped, 6 p.m. Thursday at the Bulldog Diamond .
