Spring fashion is in full bloomSometimes we all dread the walk to our closet. Peering inside all we see is the same dull, wrinkled clothes that have been collecting dust all winter and fall. Our goal is to make your closet glow. Your closet should be a shrine to yourself. It should reflect who you are and it should make you feel like everyday is the best day. With that thought, let us remind you that spring is finally here. It is blooming all around us with new flowers, new lovers and best of all, new clothes. Take your fall and winter clothes, throw them in a bag and stuff them under your bed. Spring means starting over and revitalizing yourself. This is where we come in. We have put together a Top 10 list of ideas to get you in the spring fashion mood. It will help prepare you for the picnics, the barbeques, and will make you want to get out of class even sooner into the fresh air. • Color – Color is huge this spring, especially bright colors like pinks, blues, corals, teals, yellows…you get the idea. Don’t be afraid to wear color this season. Try something different than the usual blacks and grays. Go crazy and mix colors together, like a pink skirt with green sandals. Bright colors also look great with white solids. • Dresses and skirts – Get a dress or skirt or both that will make you feel good this spring. Knee-length A-line skirts are versatile and can go with any top. You can also get a cute full skirt like those from the ‘50s or a cute spring dress. • Prints – Don’t be shy. Go ahead and break out every print you have i.e. floral, polka dots, stripes, etc. And better yet, don’t feel confined to matching. Mix and match. Have fun with it. • Get a fun book bag. A green, pink, yellow or any bright colored bag would lighten up anyone’s outfit. There is no need to lug around a clunky backpack to weigh you down and make you sweat even more. • Get a blazer. Blazers look great on guys and girls and it won’t cost you $50 or even $100 as you might think. Thrift stores have tons of them that are in excellent condition, not to mention some of them are authentic from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Find one that suits you with the right fit and style. Whether it is velvet, wool or a cotton blend it will be perfect on those breezy days. Pair them up with jeans or a cute mini skirt. • Get out your father’s old ties. Ties aren’t just for guys anymore. Turn them into a cool headscarf, belt, or even a necklace (as seen in ‘Sex and the City’). You can also transform it into a new strap on an old purse. The possibilities are endless. • Don’t overlook pleats. We have seen pleats all over campus, especially on mini skirts (like those Abercrombie skirts). Pleats are cute and classic. If you want to elongate it, go to a thrift store and find one that fits your waist and cut it into the length you like. • Wear a headscarf. Go through your mother’s old fabrics and find a piece that catches your eye. Make a quick wrap around the top of your head. It adds class and color to anything. • Lingerie-inspired looks such as lace trims on camisoles and slip skirts are fun and sexy at the same time. • Shoes – Spring is all about heels and strappy sandals. Find some cute and colorful sandals or kitten heels to wear with a skirt or jeans. |
