News-in-BriefCivics conference features educator Fresno State’s 20th annual conference on character and civic education will feature keynote speaker Thomas Lickona, a professor of education at SUNY Cortland. The conference is aimed toward education students preparing to become teachers in the Central Valley. The conference will be held Wednesday at the Fresno Convention Center’s exhibit hall from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 278-0373. Health fair to focus on student lifestyles Health Fair 2004 will feature more than 25 booths addressing student health issues including fad diets, hangover prevention and alternative health care. University police will demonstrate the risks of driving under the influence with a simulation in which drivers wear “fatal vision” goggles while driving a motorized cart. The fair will be held Wednesday in the residence dining hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free and open to the university community. Tasting features Italian varietals Fresno State’s enology department will host Vino Italiano, a wine tasting featuring student-made wines, Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the winery. Th event is open to those 21 and older, and will feature the winery’s Italian varietals, including Barbera, Muscato and Primitivo.
