Vigil Against Violence

The Free Speech Area was awash with black clothing Thursday as the campus Peace & Civil Liberties Coalition held a silent vigil protesting violence against women. In recognition of Women’s Herstory Month, the coalition organized “Women Standing Against Violence: Women in Black Demonstration” on the steps of the speaker’s platform. Some students stopped momentarily to observe and then proceeded along. Some completely stopped to watch the event, while children from the Peach Blossom festival asked what was taking place.More>>

 

Bomb threat turns out to be hoax

A bomb threat cleared the social sciences building of students and faculty for nearly two hours Wednesday. According to campus police, dispatch received a call at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday from a male voice saying an unspecified number of bombs were in the building that would detonate at 2 and 3 p.m. Fresno State Police Chief Michael Dunlap said that was the extent of the call.More>>

 

Free tax filing service to end Saturday

Tomorrow will be the last day to take advantage of a free tax filing service at Fresno State’s Henry Madden library. The annual income tax service, provided by Beta Alpha Psi, an accountancy student organization at Fresno State, has served more than 150 students and members of the community during the last six Saturdays.More>>

 

 

A student stood silently for one hour with faculty and other students at the Women in Black demonstration Thursday in the Free Speech Area. Participants brought signs, photos and read spoken word poetry targeting violence against women.

Wesson enters not guilty plea

Preliminary hearing set for April 7

Marcus Wesson, accused of killing 9 family members, pled not guilty on nine counts of murder during his arraignment Thursday. Wesson’s preliminary hearing is set for April 7. At a preliminary hearing, evidence is presented to the court to determine if there is probable cause for a trial. The special circumstance of multiple murders makes Wesson eligible for the death penalty.More>>
