Student Ticket policy adjustedBy Eddie Hughes In an effort to make it easier for students to sit with friends at basketball games, the Student Basketball Ticket Distribution Committee has altered the process in which the 2,000 free student tickets are handed out. Earlier in the season, tickets could be picked up at the University Student Union each Friday before weeks in which there are home games and 100 tickets were available at the entrance from 90 minutes before the game until tipoff. That process has a new twist. Now, any leftover student tickets will be made available at the entrance, said Frank Puccio, president of the USU Board. This way, students who aren’t able to get their friends together to all show up at USU at the same time, can all show up to the game together and get seats next to each other. Tickets will still be available at the USU as well, Puccio said. “ This will make it easy for you to sit with the people you want to go to the game with,” Puccio said. This process actually started with the Jan. 22 game against Rice and Puccio said just as many of the 1,100 in attendance got their tickets at the door as at USU. The Collegian reported Friday that the athletic department’s proposed idea for changing the process to general admission would be discussed in an 8 a.m. meeting that day. The process was brought up, Puccio said, but not adopted. Both Puccio and assistant athletic director Steve Weakland said the athletic department’s idea is not dead, but wouldn’t be considered until next season, if at all. “ It was brought up more so for the future,” Puccio said. The committee is also looking for a way to lower the $22 guest fee for students, Puccio said. |
