‘Hoppin’ at the Save Mart Center

After all of the open houses and tours, basketball has finally arrived.

The Save Mart Center hosts the Bulldog Basketball Extravaganza tonight, with the doors opening at 5:30.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will sign autographs at 6 p.m. Other festivities such as a media all-star game and a mascot game will take place before the introduction of the Fresno State volleyball team. After banner ceremonies and video tributes to both the men’s and women’s teams, coaches Ray Lopes and Stacy Johnson-Klein will introduce their teams.

The teams will participate in slam-dunk and 3-point contests before a co-ed scrimmage.

Tickets for the event are $5 and $3.

Women’s soccer heading to WAC tourney

The Bulldogs won four of the final six regular season matches, but one of those losses was a 4-1 decision against Rice in the season finale.

It won’t take long for the Bulldogs to get another shot. Sixth-seeded Fresno State (7-8-2, 4-4 WAC) opens the WAC tournament against No. 3 Rice (9-7-1, 6-2) on Thursday in Dallas.

The Bulldogs are tied with Boise State and UTEP in the conference standings, but fell to the No. 6 seed because of the tiebreaker.

Fresno State has never won more than one WAC tournament game in the program’s nine-year history. The Bulldogs are 2-1 all-time against the Owls.

If the Bulldogs beat Rice they meet Hawaii at 3 p.m. Friday. The tournament championship is Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
