Equestrian wins second straight

Fresno State equestrian rider Amanda Hancock helped lead the Bulldogs to their second- straight English high-point title

The Fresno State equestrian team won the IHSA English Show at Stanford last weekend, earning high point team honors both days.

The Bulldogs finished Saturday with 37 points and five first place riders. Amanda Hancock, Rachel DeCamp, Anela Bird, Katie Flannigan, and Kristina Chancholo all earned first-place finishes, putting the Bulldogs on top after the first day.

Fresno State riders finished day two with 35 points, and once again had five first-place riders.

Michelle Tonello, Katie Oliver, Stacey McCalmont, and Anela Bird combined for five more first-place honors, giving the Bulldogs 10 for the two-day event.

Fresno State excelled in Novice Flat, collectively earning four of the team’s 10 first-place showings.

A top showing in Intermediate Fences by Hancock and first through fourth showings in Intermediate Flat competition by DeCamp, Elise Kolp, Emily Brown and Amy Simmons also boosted the Bulldogs in the team standings with a combined 72 points during the event.

Fresno State’s next competition will be Saturday in Reno, Nevada for an all-day event.

Men’s Soccer downs Stanford

The Fresno State men’s soccer team won 1-0 at Stanford on Sunday for the second time this season, earning its second Pac-10 conference victory.

The win put the Bulldogs at 2-5 in the Pac-10 and improves their overall record to 5-10.

Bulldog senior midfielder Ernie Vega scored the game’s lone goal in the 38th minute, shooting it past the Cardinal goalkeeper for an unassisted strike.

Stanford’s attackers attempted 13 shots in the match, but none were able to get past Fresno State goalkeeper Eric Kronberg, who tallied six saves.

Kronberg’s save total is now at 81 for the season, tying him for the 11th best single season mark in school history. The feat was last reached by Kirk Shermer (1979).

Stanford outshot Fresno State by a mark of 13-10, seven of them coming in the second half.

The Bulldogs will have a week off until they hit the road again Nov. 4 as they travel to Cal State Fullerton in their final non-conference game of the season at 7 p.m.
