Star cast carries 'Mystic River

'Runaway Jury' is a runaway winner

Taking place in the rough streets of Boston, the lives of three young boys, Jimmy Markum (Sean Penn), Dave Boyle (Tim Robbins) and Sean Devine (Kevin Bacon) are forever altered when Dave is abducted.

Twenty-five years later, the three find their lives intertwined once again in the most tragic of events—the death of Jimmy’s 19-year-old daughter.

Based on the best-selling novel by Dennis Lehane, “Mystic River” explores the depths of personal heartache and tragedy that haunt the lives of three childhood friends. With its attention focused mainly on pain and loss, this film asks the question of how different a life would be if one moment in time could be changed.

Directed and produced by Clint Eastwood, this film not only provides an amazingly powerful cast, but also an interesting murder mystery that keeps you guessing. The most powerful performance in the film is that of Penn. He plays the role of a tough ex-con who loses his daughter in a seemingly senseless murder.

This film is another form of proof that displays the amazing talent of Robbins. He plays the role of a husband and father who is traumatized by a childhood event that carries with him into his adult years.

With its amazing cast and crew, “Mystic River” will most definitely be one of the movies remembered this year. Although it drags on at times the powerful acting and twists in the storyline will keep viewers’ interest. Maybe “Mystic River” isn’t for those looking for a light-hearted movie. But for those in search of a movie with solid acting and an excellent story should check it out.
