Senior Kara June won the San Francisco State Invitational on Saturday leading the Bulldogs to a second-place finish in the meet.

June finished the 6k with a time of 21:30, 11 seconds faster than her previous season-best time.

The Bulldogs finished with 5 runners in the top 25, but were edged by San Jose State, who tallied 44 points compared to the Bulldogs’ 64.

Bulldogs Stacy Aurit, Andrea Buckner and Courtney Stewart also set new season-best times.

Fresno State’s next meet is at the Cal poly Invitational on Oct 18. It’s the last meet before the WAC championships on Nov. 1.

Men’s soccer

The Bulldogs dropped to 3-7-0 after being shut out in two games in the opening weekend of Pac-10 play.

Fresno State lost the conference opener 2-0 at No. 13 Washington on Friday, then lost 4-0 at Oregon State on Sunday.

Fresno State battled Washington to a stalemate in the first half of its match-up, but the Huskies got second-half goals from freshmen Ty Harden and Kevin Forrest.

Wahington outshot Fresno State 15-4, but Bulldogs sophomore goalkeeper Eric Kronberg registered three saves.

On their way back to Fresno, the Bulldogs stopped long enough in Oregon to get blanked by the Beavers.

Oregon State jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of the game when the nation’s assist leader–Oregon State’s Ryan Johnson—registered his 10th assist of the season.

The Beavers scored again just seconds into the second half and got two more insurance goals to push the lead to four, sending the Bulldogs back to Fresno with an 0-2 record in the Pac-10.

Volleyball

The Fresno State women’s volleyball team defeated WAC rival San Jose State Saturday with a four game victory over the Spartans (27-30, 31-29, 30-26, and 30-23).

Bulldogs junior outside hitter Kristen Fenton recorded match-highs in kills (27) and hitting percentage (.462), adding three assists, two service aces, six digs and four blocks.

Sophomore setter Robyn Keune set a career and match-high mark in assists with 73, also good enough to surpass the Fresno State all-time rally-scoring record for a four game match previously held by Whitney Arena with 69.

Fresno State will be on the road once again when it travels to Reno to play Nevada on Saturday.
