Memorial service scheduled for student athlete Eriksson

A public memorial for Shana Eriksson, the equestrian rider who died Saturday after an on-campus riding accident, will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Animal Science Pavillion on Barstow and Woodrow Avenues.

Eriksson was an 18-year-old freshman. Her major was undeclared, but she planned to major in business administration with an option in international business, according to the student affairs office.

The ornamental horticulture department is preparing greenery for the memorial.

Recently-hired equestrian coach Chuck Smallwood asked the team last week to dedicate the upcoming season to Eriksson.

The Eriksson family will be holding a separate memorial at the family ranch near Tahoe City, Calif. on Sunday.
