Police arrest 2 suspected of stealing bikes

Fresno State police arrested two men suspected of stealing bicycles on campus Tuesday morning.

“ We have arrested two subjects and they have been taken to Fresno County Jail,” said Sgt. Lupe Shrum of the Fresno State police department.

The police could not provide the names of the suspects because they are still in the process of verifying their identities.

One of the suspects was arrested in the alley between the North and South gyms. The suspect who was riding a bicycle did not resist arrest after police in two cars cornered him.

A witness, who preferred to remain anonymous, described the suspect as “looking like he was on a mission.”

“ I was sitting there doing my homework and I saw this guy,” the witness said. “He didn’t look like a student. He looked like he was on a mission. He saw the cops and turned around and kept on riding.”

The suspect was detained in the alley by one of the police officers while the officer in the second car went after the second suspect.

The officer searched the suspect’s bag and proceeded to conduct a body search on him. He handcuffed the suspect, led him into the back of the police car and loaded his bicycle into the trunk of the police car.
