Carlos Radillo got up Wednesday morning, got dressed and prepared for a job interview.

Radillo, a senior at Fresno State, grabbed his résumé and headed to campus, arriving about 45 minutes before the start of the Save Mart Center student job fair, hoping to beat the large crowd of students that were sure to show up wanting jobs as well.

“ I wasn’t nervous,” he said later. “I felt very confident about getting a job.”

Radillo, who said he brought only his résumé to the event, was looking to be hired in the Save Mart Center’s restaurant. He has restaurant experience already and was looking to bring his skills to the Center.

Wednesday’s job fair gave Radillo and other Fresno State students, faculty and staff a special opportunity to make contact with representatives of the Save Mart Center. Would-be interviewees offered their résumés and an first impression that could even get a call back.

Job openings include: ticket sellers, change-over crew, ticket takers, users and supervisors, event receptionists, parking attendants, cleaning crews, kitchen staff, full-service bartenders and wait staff with fine dining experience.

By 11 a.m. Wednesday, hundreds of students crowded the upper level of the Student Union. Within an hour and a half of the job fair’s opening at 12:30 p.m., more than 200 students had been in and out, taking applications and giving short interviews. Radillo said the event was “an experience.”

Some attendees simply took applications and left without interviews, choosing to return their applications and resumes another time.

Radillo stayed. After filling out his application, he said he ended up with a five-minute interview.

He said he felt confident about being hired after finishing the interview, and would now wait on a phone call regarding employment possibilities.

A public job fair for jobs with the center will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to noon in the Satellite Student Union (2485 E. San Ramon Ave.).

Interested applicants are asked to bring a résumé with them to Saturday’s event.
