Fresno State opened the scoring with a goal by Junior midfielder Dan Oka in the 40th minute off a deflected pass from senior forward Mat Herold. Sacramento State immediately answered less than five minutes later with a goal by Kris McAlavey, who substituted in the game right after Oka’s goal. McAlavey scored on a cross from teammate Ryan Rhoads with just 26 seconds left in the half. In the second half, neither team scored as they battled out for the remaining 45 minutes of play. Fresno State freshman Albert Naugle led the Bulldogs with five shots and four on goal, part of a 15-8 advantage by Fresno over Sacramento State. Bulldog goalkeeper Eric Kronberg registered one save as the Sacramento State duo of Matt McDougall and Jeff Gibson combined for seven saves. The Bulldogs will open the regular season on Saturday, Aug. 30, as they play host UC Irvine in the opening match of the UC Irvine Tournament at 7:30 p.m. — |
