With just under two minutes left of play, senior guard Amaya West tied the game with a shot from beyond the arc. That 3 would not only change the momentum of the game, but it was West’s 1,000th career point.

West is the 30th Fresno State women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 career points. But she did not stop there, adding 2 points right after to give the ‘Dogs their first lead of the game.

She scored 15 points total, leading Fresno State to a 58-55 victory over Nevada on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The game was the second of the doubleheader, with the first being men’s basketball against Colorado State at the Save Mart Center.

The Wolf Pack started the game hot, winning the jump ball and going on a 7-point run, not allowing the ‘Dogs to score in the first four minutes.

Fresno State got on the scoreboard with a layup by West, making the score 7-2. Nevada went on yet another run, this time going on an 8-point stretch, which lasted up until the four-minute mark.

The Bulldogs ended the first quarter with a 4-0 run but still trailed 17-8.

Opening up the second quarter, Keely Brown connected in the paint twice for the ‘Dogs, adding four points, cutting the deficit 17-12.

Once again, the Wolf Pack had a response with a midrange jumper by Audrey Roden, keeping them up by 7 points with seven minutes remaining in the first half.

With under two minutes remaining, Nevada pushed its lead, adding 6 more points on the board. The Wolf Pack still led 27-16.

The ‘Dogs were almost scoreless for the last three minutes of the first half, but senior guard Yanina Todorova made a 3-pointer, closing off the half 27-19.

The ‘Dogs were scoreless the first three minutes of the second half while the Wolfpack went on a 5-point run. Thea Mikkelsen scored the first 2 points for the Bulldogs by a second-chance jumper.

The Wolfpack kept the lead the entirety of the third quarter. Fresno State couldn’t find an answer until the fourth quarter.

Fresno State started the last quarter making a statement. The Bulldogs made 11 points in the first four minutes and only allowed the Wolf Pack to make 4. This trend continued for the rest of the quarter, helping the ‘Dogs chip at the deficit.

Once the ‘Dogs got the lead, 53-51, Wolf Pack player Victoria Davis had a swift 2-point reply to once again tie the game at 53.

The Bulldogs then scored five more points, with West going 2-for-2 from the line with six seconds left, locking in a turnaround win for the ‘Dogs.

Fresno State will head to San Jose State on Saturday, Feb. 25, for its second to last conference game of the season.
