Associated Students Inc. (ASI) President Cinthya Arriaga-Sanchez and ASI senators Jasmine Sevilla and Samantha Snow have resigned from their respective positions for the 2022-23 year.

The former ASI members resigned due to eligibility requirements set by the California State University (CSU) Chancellor’s office, according to James D. Martinez, ASI director of operations.

The minimum qualifications listed by the CSU Chancellor’s office include that student representatives must maintain “a minimum on-campus 2.0 term grade point average (GPA), are in good standing and must not be on academic, disciplinary or administrative probation.”

Martinez said he cannot disclose which of the requirements were not met.

Karen Carrillo, ASI Executive Vice President, will serve as the interim and acting ASI president. 

The current ASI senate was informed Thursday regarding the leadership changes, and a special senate meeting is scheduled for July 20 from 4-6 p.m. on Zoom. ASI members and campus community members are invited to attend.

“This will be an informational meeting to provide further details to senate members and answer any questions they may have regarding the current status of ASI,” Martinez said. 

According to Martinez, a special senate meeting will be scheduled following the July 20 meeting in order to “vote to move forward with alternative option(s) to fill the vacancy of the ASI president ahead of the start of the fall semester.”
