It’s Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) election season again, and Fresno State students can look forward to the annual presidential debate on Monday, March 24.
This year the presidential candidates will find themselves in a three-way debate. The candidates are, Carlie Hall, Camalah Saleh and Guadalupe Zamudio Telles.
The debate will be held in the Resnick Student Union Room 207 from 12-1 p.m. and will be hosted by The Collegian, with reporters Lauren Aiello and Josiah Poynter as this year’s moderators.
Hall currently serves as the ASI senator for veteran and transfer affairs and her campaign platform is a combined effort with her two running mates, Seth Borba and Ava Tingey focused on taking Fresno State to the “next step.” Their campaign targets issues like parking, agriculture and the current proposed student fee increase, according to their campaign page.
Saleh is new to ASI and her campaign is also a team effort with her running partner, Danielle Vu. Their campaign is targeting three points on campus; fighting food insecurity, finding parking solutions and improving campus infrastructure, according to their campaign page.
Zamudio Telles currently serves as ASI vice president of finance and before that, she was the senator for the Craig School of Business. Her campaign is also a dual effort with her running companion, Dayanara Guzman. Their campaign is titled “Valley grown-valley lead,” and their platform is based on three pillars, sustainable change, experience and transparency, according to their campaign page.
During the debate, candidates will answer a series of questions crafted by The Collegian as well as student questions from the audience. They will be allotted time for opening and closing statements, to respond to each question, and will also be offered an optional 30 seconds for rebuttal.
The debate is open to everyone and will also be live-streamed on The Collegian’s Instagram @fscollegian.
The Collegian will post a video with fact-checking after the debate, as well as a written story recap.
