Look I get it; when nacho fries were first released back in January 2018, they were a fan favorite, dare I say Taco Bell’s next best thing.
Because of this, Taco Bell went through a process of discontinuing their fries for a period of time, then bringing them back and so on and so forth. It has kept their customers on their toes, coming back hoping the fries would be back on the drive-thru screen.
As someone who knows very little about marketing, good marketing tactic.
However, we are now in 2025 and Taco Bell is still doing that. It’s utterly disappointing, especially for a nacho fry lover like me.
“I totally disagree with them always removing [the nacho fries],” said Fresno barber Andres Valencia. “They’re the only thing on the menu that I like and makes me want to go to Taco Bell.”
At the beginning of the week, I went to Taco Bell with a really strong craving for nacho fries, not even a thought in my mind that they might be discontinued. Well, they were.
I literally said, “Huh? Dang.”
At this point, it’s like Taco Bell is continuously teasing their customers and it seems like they like the tease.
What they aren’t realizing is that customers are beginning to get annoyed with the whole discontinuation process. It’s no longer a marketing tactic that keeps customers coming back, but it’s now a nuisance that keeps pushing customers away.
The Daily Dot mentioned that Taco Bell often gets rid of the fries for various periods of time because they are difficult to handle and maintain. The frying process is tedious and complicated when having to manage all of the other menu items.
However, if it’s worth the money then make it work!
Restaurant Business reported that Taco Bell sold approximately 53 million of the fries at a starting price of $1 over the span of the first five weeks of the product’s promotion. This skyrocketed Taco Bell’s business success and evidently was one of the most popular product introductions in Taco Bell’s menu history.
The nacho fries became such a hit among customers that the food chain decided to create variations of the product like 7-layer nacho fries and grilled cheese nacho fries.
Despite the popularity, Taco Bell remains fighting the obvious to make their famous fries permanent.
Stop the tease. Just put the fries in the bag.
