Q: Why should students vote for you?

A: Saleh emphasized that she and her running mate will represent all students through fighting for their main issues, one being food insecurity.

Hall explained that her slate’s slogan will be how they lead, and that she is ready to fight for students.

Zamudio Telles said that she will equally represent all students’ needs and wants.

Q: What are your strengths and weaknesses, and how will they impact your potential presidency?

A: Saleh said that her strengths are her passion and communication skills, and her weakness is wanting to do everything.

Hall said that her strengths are wanting to get things done effectively, and that she is able to ask the hard questions.

Zamudio Telles discussed her passion and communication skills as well.

Each candidate explained how these traits will make them effective leaders.

Q for Hall: How can students trust you to listen to them equally?

A: Hall said that she is confused where this question is coming from and will listen to students, regardless of who they are.

Q for Zamudio Telles: How will you ensure accessibility to students, specifically, campus commuters?

A: Zamudio Telles said that accessibility is extremely important, especially for commuters. She proposed a few plans to make their journey easier.

Q for Hall: You violated campaign guidelines, how can you be trusted to have integrity in office?

A: Hall said that everything that her slate has done has been approved by ASI and that she has been compliant with all rules.

Rebuttle:

Saleh said that Hall’s campaign video goes against ASI election guidelines.

Zamudio Telles said that this issue does not apply to her and that she is focused on the students only.

Hall expressed that she is also focused on the student body and and that some candidates are hyper-focused on what she is doing.

Q: How will you make the Fresno State campus the best that it can be?

A: Saleh discussed the issue of food insecurity once again and emphasized tackling her and her running mate’s issues to improve the campus.

Hall spoke about making people excited to be Bulldogs and improving some of Fresno State’s shortcomings.

Zamudio Telles expressed her belief of making sure that student’s experiences are enhanced on campus through various events and programs.

Q for Saleh: How will you receive funds for your infrastructure expansion goals?

A: Saleh emphasized that these issues are significant and will be brought to the legislative level as well as other outside organizations, such as the city council. She has made connections and plans to bring these connections to Fresno State.

Q: How do you plan to support students in light of the recent Department of Education ban?

A: All three candidates emphasized that they will support all students on campus.

Q: A student asked about Saleh’s involvement with the Students for Palestinian Liberation and how this will affect her work.

A: Saleh said that her and her fellow members are peaceful and she will adovcate for all. She claimed that Hall was protesting at a SPL event.

Rebuttle:

Hall clarified that she was not protesting at a SPL protest.

Q for Hall: How do you plan to allocate funds for the parking endeavors?

A: Because she has met with the parking director, she understands the budget. The new parking issues will be self-reliant, payed through student passes that are sold.

Q for Zamudio Telles: As Vice President of Finance, why don’t you fix what your promised initially?

A: Zamudio Telles emphasized that when she says action, she means action. She discussed some of her accomplishments.

Q: How do candidates who proposed building parking infrastructure plan to pay for this?

A: Saleh explained that building a new parking infrastructure is not possible due to factors such as cost and time. She said that, while Hall has proposed this, it is simply not realistic.

Hall corrected the record and said that her and her slate want to redo parking lot P20, not build a new infrastructure.

Zamudio Telles wants more parking accessibility, not necessarily a new infrastructure such as a parking garage.

Rebuttle:

Saleh said that, while Hall said that we should not focus on our differences, this is not ideal because DACA students need advocacy on an individual level.

Zamudio Telles asked Hall to expand on her answer. Hall said that she has met with the parking director on campus and understands what the students need, and clarified that each of her plans will be fulfilled by the end of her term. She wants a parking tracker in front of each lot, which will display the number of spots available.

Saleh asked for another rebuttle and was declined.

Q: How do you plan to serve with students who have diverse beliefs?

A: Saleh explained that people should disagree and be able to listen to each other with respect and consideration.

Hall said that, as long as each side can agree on one main outcome a pragmatic solution is always possible.

Zamudio Telles emphasized the importance of communication and equal advocacy.

Q: The candidates have shown involvement in Students for Palestinian Liberation, Turning Point U.S.A and Gamma Alpha Omega sorority. How has this qualified you for this role?

A: Saleh explained that Students for Palestinian Liberation has given students a chance to freely express their advocacy, which is what she ultimately hopes to accomplish.

Hall, in her leadership roles in Turning Point USA and other organizations, believes that she has been exposed to many different points of view and has made her a leader who can represent everyone. She discussed bringing the student body together, with a focus on a shared vision in mind.

Zamudio Telles discussed her former role as a student ambassador and her current memberships in the Gamma Alpha Omega sorority and the Craig School of Business honor student program, which has emphasized to her the importance of unifying the student body and giving everyone’s voice the same level of respect. 

Q: How do you plan to ensure transparency on campus?

A: Saleh plans to hold open forums, conduct surveys and be an open-door to the student body.

Hall says that she will bring students to the table to amplify their voices, and made a point that students are not involved in ASI decision making enough. 

Zamudio Telles wants to continue to communicate effectively with the student body. During her time as vice president of finance, she explained that students have been able to drop into her office with inquiries. She believes that students are overpromised and hopes to solve this issue.

Q: What issue is your top priority if you get into office?

A: Saleh discussed that her and her running mate, Danielle Vu, will be prioritizing food insecurity. She wants to allocate part of the ASI budget toward food accessibility, add free vending machines throughout campus and add free food vouchers with an option of EBT payment.

Hall, along with her running mates, Seth Borba and Ava Tingey, is committed to tackling the campus parking issue with time meters and parking lot renovations. She explained that fees are rising and students should be aware of where their money is going.

Zamudio Telles says that she and her running mate, Dayanara Guzman, will be focused on facilitating programs that will enhance the student experience through security.

With a full room, Vice President Phong Yang gives a few words of encouragement to audience members and encourages students to fill out questions for the candidates.
