Fresno State seniors are gearing up to graduate as deadlines to apply approach.
The deadline to apply to walk at graduation in Spring 2025 is Feb. 28. Students who intend to graduate must complete all coursework by May 23.
Students who submit a graduation application, complete all required courses with a minimum 2.0 GPA and file their official transcripts are all eligible to graduate.
“Make sure to review your Degree Progress Report (DPR) often, especially as you are nearing your final semester,” said Laura Yager, a university registrar with the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
Students who have incomplete (I) or report delayed (RD) grades on their records will not be allowed to graduate with a degree– despite having all the other minimum requirements to graduate.
“If you are not meeting requirements, meet with your major advisor as soon as possible to see if any major adjustments need to be made,” Yager said.
After applying to graduate, students who have their application approved will receive their diplomas in the mail in July. The final review for pending applications is in June.
“Final communication regarding their final status will be sent to all applicants once grades are finalized for that semester,” Yager said. “Application statuses are listed in the Important Information section in their Student Center.”
Fresno State Commencement, the weekend of ceremonies recognizing graduates, will be held May 16-17.
Students are eligible to receive honors based on their GPA. Students who graduate with a 3.50-3.69 GPA will be awarded cum laude, 3.70-3.89 magna cum laude and 3.90-4.00 summa cum laude.
The time at which students receive their diplomas on stage depends on the college of their major. Students can find more information on the schedule of ceremonies website.
Students who may only have one more class to take in the Fall 2026 semester can still participate in the commencement ceremony, but won’t receive a diploma.
Details and registration of the academic college ceremonies are currently being planned and finalized by the dean’s office of each respective college. Students are encouraged to check their emails for more details regarding the ceremonies.
Tickets are not required for guests, but there is a limit on the number of guests the graduate can bring depending on the academic college ceremony. Students are welcome to contact the ceremony coordinator for their college if questions arise.
Caps and gowns are available to be ordered at the Kennel Bookstore. Other graduation accessories, like yard signs, diploma frames and class rings are also available at the bookstore. Students are allowed to decorate their caps, just as long as the decorations are stable on the cap.
Grad Boxes are available to purchase for those interested in having some alumni merchandise. Items such as an alumni tee, pennant, key chain, license plate frame, cap, gown and tassels are all included in the box.
More information on how to apply for graduation can be found on the Fresno State Student Affairs website.
