Adams makes history
Wide receiver Davante Adams had a career day in the New York Jets 32-25 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
After not catching either of his two targets in the first half, the former Bulldog caught nine passes for 198 yards and a pair of touchdown catches.
Both touchdown catches were big milestones for Adams. The first one, a one-yard pass to the endzone’s right corner, was the 100th of his career.
With 3:24 left in the fourth quarter, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers found Adams across the middle of the field. He would weave between several Jaguars defenders for 71 yards and score. The duo connected again, giving the Jets a 25-22 lead.
The longest touchdown catch of his career put Adams in the top 10 all-time for touchdown receptions in NFL history, joining the likes of Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Cris Carter, Marvin Harrison, Larry Fitzgerald, Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez and Mike Evans.
“He’s a historical player in this league,” said Jeff Ulbrich, Jets interim head coach.
A Jacksonville field goal tied the game at 25 points apiece, giving the ball back to New York. Rodgers then found his favorite target again for a 41-yard pass, which set up a game-winning touchdown run for running back Breece Hall.
The Jets (4-10) will host the Rams (8-6) this coming Sunday, Dec. 22.
Haener struggles in his first start
New Orleans Saints quarterback Jake Haener made his first career start on Sunday, in place of the injured Derek Carr. Unfortunately for Haener and the Saints, success was hard to find on the field this weekend, losing 20-19 to the Washington Commanders.
The second-year quarterback completed just 4-of-10 passes for 49 yards and an interception. He also ran the ball once for seven yards. He was replaced in the second half for backup quarterback Spencer Rattler, who threw a late touchdown pass in the Saints comeback attempt.
New Orleans (5-9) will head to Green Bay (10-4) for a Monday Night Football matchup with the Packers.
Other Dogs around the league
Washington linebacker Mykal Walker recorded three tackles in the Commanders’ 20-19 win over New Orleans. Washington (9-5) will host Philadelphia (12-2) on Sunday.
Packers’ linebacker Arron Mosby recorded a tackle and a pass deflection in Green Bay’s 30-13 blowout victory over the Seattle Seahawks. His teammate, safety Evan Williams had four tackles. The Packers (10-4) host the Saints (5-9) on Monday night.
Cornerback Daron Bland made his fourth start of the season with the Dallas Cowboys since returning from the injured reserve list. Bland had one pass defended in the Cowboys’ 30-14 win over the Carolina Panthers. The Cowboys (6-8) host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-6) on Sunday Night Football.
Running back Ronnie Rivers was a part of the Rams special teams unit again this week. The Rams (8-6) moved into first place in the NFL West this weekend with a 12-6 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, Dec. 12. The Rams play at the Jets this coming weekend.
Jordan Mims of the New Orleans Saints and Lavelle Bailey of the Denver Broncos did not play in week 15.
There are just three weeks remaining in the season before playoffs begin.
