There’s an ache to the fall season in Fresno. At a glance, spectators will find Fresnans in eclectic outfits: the swish of a flowered flowy skirt, the wrap of an orange cardigan and the simple act of blue jeans.
The Collegian interviewed creative directors, Camille Amezcua (C) and Aura Peredia (A), on their motivations, thoughts, and ideas that came about when defining the Fall Lookbook. Here are their responses:
What were the main visual inspirations?
- A: I believe this came from another piece of media called Dekonpon! Magazine, who got their inspiration from FRUiTS. Another visual inspiration came from System Magazine, specifically issue 14 with Yohji Yamamoto. The spaced out poses of the models and pictures held gravity.
- C: The inspo came from doom-scrolling Y2K Japanese fashion magazines and retro product designs on Pinterest. K-Pop album covers were also a major visual inspiration. Having the models interact with their bios was an idea I came up with on my own. I wanted to create a sense of energetic movement to show off each model’s personality.
What was the biggest challenge during the photoshoot?
- A: The biggest challenge during the photoshoot was location. From beginning to end, space was something that changed constantly because of weather, lighting, Camille’s expectations/wants, etc.
- C: The biggest challenge during the photoshoot was directing the models on how to pose. I had never directed a photoshoot before so sometimes I felt my instructions came off as vague. Thankfully, the models had lots of experience and were patient with me.
What was the biggest success during the production of this lookbook?
- A: Camille made sure I didn’t go crazy and the photographers (Joey Ybarra/Bastian Morris) were cool. The models were also engaging and willing to put up with me.
- C: The biggest success was getting all the models to pose exactly how I wanted them to interact with bios. The photographers knew exactly what I had envisioned for the look book and were able to bring my ideas to life. A lot of the models said they had a lot of fun so, I also count that as a success!
