As students grapple with midterms and financial pressures, Fresno State’s annual Homecoming events, being held Oct. 21-26, focus on fostering community spirit with activities like “Tie Dye & Good Vibes.”
The event took place at the Graves Hall student housing courtyard on Oct. 22 from 3-5 p.m.
“It’s not my first year attending a homecoming event, and I find it to be a moment of diversity because we see different communities on campus coming together as one,” said Lillian Cain, a second-year business management student at Fresno State with a minor in marketing. “It’s really cool to see how welcoming every group can be and how kind students can be to one another.”
Students received a white t-shirt with the Hype of The Valley Homecoming logo and had the opportunity to participate by signing up in person or scanning a QR code.
Erin Boele, the director of student housing, guided students to various tables where they collected gloves, rubber bands and t-shirts.
At the tables, students received blue and red dyes along with instructions to create one of 25 different tie-dye designs. The engaging atmosphere allowed students to mingle and enjoy the creative process.
Jessica Saenz, a senior majoring in liberal studies, praised the homecoming staff for organizing inclusive and enjoyable activities for everyone.
“The homecoming staff comes up with ideas that are fun for everyone to participate in,” Saenz said.
Aidan Brown, a second-year student majoring in biochemistry, echoed the sentiment.
“I think just the time of year it is, everyone comes together and has fun at these events. I think that’s really exciting,” Brown said.
Homecoming will continue with events throughout the week leading up to the football game between the Fresno State Bulldogs and the rival San Jose State Spartans at Valley Children’s Stadium this Saturday at 5 p.m.
