‘Dogs in the NFL: Week 4
Week 4 in the NFL had limited action for former Bulldogs.
Derek Carr fails to get back on track
Quarterback Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints couldn’t get it done on the road against the Atlanta Falcons.
For the second-straight game, the Saints could not replicate their early season offensive success.
Carr completed 28 of 36 passes for 239 yards against the Falcons but did not record a touchdown. The former Bulldog quarterback also had a deflected pass returned for a pick-six in the second quarter.
The Saints scored all of their touchdowns on the ground with few big plays through the air. Carr’s longest completion went to wide receiver Rashid Shaheed for 25 yards.
With less than four minutes to go in the game, Carr led a 42-yard drive downfield, utilizing short throws. New Orleans ended up scoring their third rushing touchdown of the game, taking a 24-23 lead with just one minute to go in the game.
A late 58-yard field goal by Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo spoiled Carr’s comeback.
“You try your best not to be so angry about it,” Carr said after the game. “But you hate losing, especially close ones. They stink.”
The Saints fell to their National Football Conference South divisional rivals, 26-24.
The (2-2) Saints have a Monday night matchup against the (4-0) Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 7 at 5:15 p.m.
Las Vegas able to win without Davante Adams
The Las Vegas Raiders beat the Cleveland Browns 20-16, despite not having star wide receiver Davante Adams.
Adams sustained a hamstring injury during practice on Thursday and was ruled out on Friday. The former Bulldog is considered week-to-week as the Raiders try to build on their win Sunday.
The (2-2) Las Vegas Raiders will head on the road to face the (2-2) Denver Broncos on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1:05 p.m.
Ronnie Rivers sees action for the Rams
Running back Ronnie Rivers had six carries for 26 yards in the loss, with his longest carry going for 11 yards.
The Los Angeles Rams lost to the Chicago Bears 24-18.
The (1-3) Rams will face the (2-2) Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1:25 p.m.
Other former ‘Dogs in the league
Washington Commanders linebacker Mykal Walker played six snaps but did not record any stats.
Quarterback Jake Haener and running back Jordan Mims saw no action for New Orleans.
