Last year, the Fresno State volleyball team went from last place in the preseason polls to winning the Mountain West Conference.
A big reason for that was senior Brooke Cowie, who has already made a big impact this year in the ‘Dogs quest for another great season. That is why she is The Collegian’s Top Dog of the Month for August.
The Bulldogs took two of three games in the Grand Canyon University (GCU) Invitational this past weekend from Aug. 30 – Sept.1 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Cowie played a huge role in the effort, tallying 138 assists, five kills, four service aces, 29 digs and eight total blocks as she earned the title of tournament MVP.
She was particularly effective in Sunday’s win over GCU, with a career-high 53 assists.
The senior setter is in her fourth season with the Bulldogs, earning All-Mountain West Academic team honors each of the last three seasons. She was also named Mountain West Championship MVP last year.
Cowie and the ‘Dogs hit the road again this weekend for the Buffs Classic in Boulder, Colorado from Sept. 6-8. All three games will be available to watch on ESPN+. It begins Friday at 3 p.m. against the University of Washington.
