The 2024 National Football League (NFL) preseason has come to a close and Bulldog alumni showed up during the three weeks of competition.
Linebacker Levelle Bailey made a solid impact in his NFL debut, leading the Denver Broncos in tackles and acquiring four in total against the Indianapolis Colts.
Bailey went on to see playtime on defense and special teams in the second week of preseason, providing a solid role in the Broncos win over the Green Bay Packers.
The Broncos finished the preseason undefeated, winning 38-12 against the Arizona Cardinals. Bailey snagged a 94-yard pick six to close out the big win.
Jaelen Gill, wide receiver for the Los Angeles Chargers, saw some heavy action in the first week of preseason as a kick returner, averaging 28 yards per kickoff return and 12.5 per punt return. He totaled three kickoff returns for 84 yards total and two punt returns for 25 yards.
Gill continued to show promise in the Chargers’ second game against the Los Angeles Rams, finding some activity in the passing game with two receptions on two targets. He played a strong role as the only punt returner on both kickoffs and punts.
Gill saw three targets in the final preseason game win against the Dallas Cowboys, acquiring only one reception for a total of 18 yards.
Detroit Lions linebacker Morice Norris Jr. appeared in preseason week one, racking up three tackles in his NFL preseason debut, but was waived the following games due to a reported hamstring injury.
Carlton Johnson, cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks saw some preseason action as well, gathering up five tackles in the 2-1 showing for the Seahawks to enter the regular season.
Daron Bland, cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys was another former Bulldog who is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks due to a stress fracture in his foot that will require surgery.
Derek Carr, quarterback for the New Orleans Saints saw limited action in the 2024 preseason recording 59 pass yards, completing 11 of 15 passes in preseason weeks one and two. Carr did not see the field in the preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans.
Jake Haener is battling for the backup quarterback spot for the Saints, up a total of 270 yards in 24 completions during the preseason.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Moreno-Cropper tallied five receptions, totaling 32 yards in his preseason performance.
Nikko Remigio, wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, made an all-around impact on the field in his preseason performance, getting 52 yards off of 11 targets. Remigio also handled the punt and kickoff returns for the Chiefs.
The NFL regular season kicks off Thursday, Sept. 5 with an American Football Conference title rematch as the Kansas City Chiefs go up against the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.
