Former Fresno State women’s basketball player, Stephanie Rovetti, secured her first bronze Olympic medal on the USA women’s rugby sevens team today.
Not only was it Rovetti’s first bronze medal but the first time in history that the USA women’s rugby team brought home any medal.
To get the bronze medal the USA sevens team had to fight until the last possession against Australia.
Being down, USA had one more possession on offense to get to the endzone to tie the game at 12. They did just that.
USA secured the win by getting into the end zone and executing a conversion kick, earning a spot on the podium. USA rugby took a 14-12 win over Australia.
While Rovetti competed with the USA women’s rugby team in the 2024 Paris Olympics, she played for the Fresno State women’s basketball team under the coaching of Jaime White from 2014-15.
She earned her Master’s of Public Administration from Fresno State in 2016 and now is the Director of Operations for the University of San Diego basketball team.
