Following last week’s final minute comeback win that shook the few remaining Red Wave fans at Valley Children’s Stadium, the ‘Dogs will take on Hawaii on Nov. 5 after falling three points shy against the team last season.
As Fresno State gears up to take on the Rainbow Warriors, native Hawaiian John Sniffen is ready to take on a school he once thought he was going to play for.
“I actually wanted to play there, but I didn’t have the opportunity to get the scholarship. So, you know, Fresno came and got me,” Sniffen said.
Sniffen knows some of the athletes from Hawaii’s football team and said he’s excited to bring the game to them. His aim is to contribute to his team and make sure the Rainbow Warriors hear his name.
Sniffen and his family have looked forward to this game against his hometown all season, he said. He’s ready to show what he has against a team he’s familiar with.
“I got my whole family coming up. They’ll rock in the red this week,” Sniffen said.
The ‘Dogs enter the conference matchup with a 3-1 record to Hawaii’s 1-3.
Last year, the Bulldogs didn’t have a good experience on the island. Fresno State Head Coach Jeff Tedford said this year Hawaii’s offense could do some damage against any of its opponents.
“Every single game, we just have to stay focused with everything we do and have a great week of preparation and try to take [it] one day at a time,” Tedford said.
After trailing 28-17 against the Aztecs this past Saturday, fans left the game early, expecting the Bulldogs to lose. This upcoming matchup has sold a little over 33,000 tickets already, hinting at another possible sold-out crowd at Valley Children’s Stadium.
Fresno State fans have high hopes for this Saturday’s game with the return of Jake Haener and Evan Williams from injuries and a potential redemption from last year’s game on the line.
The game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
