Working in a place surrounded with people who encourage you and educate you to do your best is a place that a majority of people would find it hard to say goodbye to — but when they’ve become some of your best friends, it becomes almost impossible.
Having the chance to start off as a contributor and then graduate as a staff reporter is something I owe entirely to everyone I’ve ever met while working at The Collegian.
Through the help of every editorial team I’ve had the privilege to work with at The Collegian, I discovered how fulfilling journalism can be.
As an agricultural business major, I had no idea how the journalism world worked, and to this day I’m still learning. But I was lucky enough to have editors, faculty and other reporters who would work tirelessly to teach me what they know. Regardless of what they had going on in their lives they were always there to lend a helping hand.
This job made me feel like I had the opportunity to shine a light on issues that other people may not have been aware of.
Because of this job I had the chance to attend events I would never have thought to attend on my own or even hear about, but now look forward to attending.
I particularly enjoyed attending basketball, though I was initially oblivious to the sport. I got the opportunity to take pictures and shadow the sports reporters, and gained a new source of entertainment and memories that will always bring a smile to my face.
Our final issue of spring 2022 will be my last issue for my time at Fresno State before I graduate. During my time at The Collegian I had the privilege of writing 38 articles, with a brief stint as a substitute photographer.
At this point in time I wish I could’ve done more, but I’m glad for the times I had working on those 38.
An aspect that I will miss the most will be being surrounded each day by some of the most intelligent, hilarious and caring individuals I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. They were the type of people who would drop what they were doing and walk over to help you get your homework done on time, or listen about your day and check up on you to see how you’re doing, and that is truly what makes saying goodbye so hard.
But, the best part of having worked in journalism with such successful individuals is knowing I’ll always get to read what they’re doing and how they’re making the world a better place, one story at a time.
Thank you for everything you’ve taught me Jesús, Ashley, Jannah, Manuel, Anahi, Stacy, Edward, Tyler, Julia, Wyatt, Melina, Aidan, Alexa, Lexee, Zaeem, Anthony, Halle and Andrea!
