The Fresno State men’s rugby club team won the West Coast Championship title last week, defeating Western Washington 52-15.
This win advances the ‘Dogs to the National D1 AA Championship on April 30 in Arlington, Texas, against Kansas. This will be the first time in program history that the Bulldogs head to the national championship.
The Bulldogs have made history this season, from winning the Pacific Western Conference League Championship against Sacramento State earlier in April, and now winning the West Coast Championship.
Rugby player Isaiah Hunter took to the team’s Instagram and praised the support they have had throughout the season from Fresno fans and even fans outside of Fresno.
“Congratulations to our Fresno State men’s rugby team, officially the Western Conference champions. It’s been a long time coming, with all the support that we’ve received, not only from Fresno rugby in the valley but we’ve had it all around, across California and pretty much across the whole nation,” he said.
He highlighted the team’s effort and dedication this season.
“We have put our blood sweat and tears in this, and it’s about time. We’ve been working hard and with the help to get to where we need to go,” he said. “Since Day One, we’ve been calling this. Since Day One, we knew what the expectation was from all of you guys, especially from our coaches. “
