The Fresno State women’s tennis team made  history this past weekend in Boise, Idaho. 

For the first time, the Bulldogs won an undefeated, outright Mountain West regular-season title with victories over Utah State and Boise State. 

The team clinched the win during its match against Boise State on April 22. The Bulldogs rallied in singles with the Broncos, but Cristina Flaquer secured the clinching point for the team, also securing the regular-season title. 

After losing the doubles point to the Broncos, the ‘Dogs made a comeback in singles with four straight wins. 

Flaquer’s match took her to three sets on court 3 after losing the first set, but making a comeback in the second. She won her third set with the score 6-1 over Boise’s Holly Stewart. 

No. 6 Carolina Piferi kicked off the singles wins in her dominating singles match over Boise’s Shauna Heffernan. She took the first set win 6-2 and the second 6-0. 

No. 1 Pang Jittakoat also secured a quick win in her two sets, taking the first set 6-1 and second 6-4. 

No. 2 Matilde Magrini, who was named Mountain West freshman of the week multiple times this season, finished third for the Bulldogs in singles. Magrini had another dominant showing for the Bulldogs, clinching both set wins: 6-3 and 6-2.

The following day, the Bulldogs took on Utah State, winning 4-1 over the Aggies. Fresno State lost the doubles point against Utah State, but quickly responded in the singles matches. 

No. 5 Piferi kicked off the singles wins with a victory over Utah State’s Sidnee Lavatai. Piferi’s win on Saturday extended her winning streak to 14 straight in singles. 

Flaquer and Jane Ellis won their singles matches adding two more points for the Bulldogs. 

A.C. Hummel clinched at No. 4 singles for the Bulldogs, creating history.

Fresno State is still ranked No. 67 in the country and will be the No. 1 seed of the MW championships next week. 

It will open the championship matches on Thursday morning for the quarterfinal round, opponents to be determined.
