Fresno State issued a statement on March 18 in response to calls to further menstrual equity by Associated Students Inc. (ASI) Senator of Operations and Resident Affairs Megan Torres.
“Since last fall, the Student Health and Counseling Center and Facilities Management have been working closely with ASI Sen. Megan Torres to prepare for the implementation of the menstrual equity program, which we are required to implement by or before the start of the 2022-23 academic year,” said Lisa Boyles Bell, Fresno State public information officer.
According to Bell, Fresno State remains committed to advancing menstrual equity on campus in collaboration with Torres and the ASI senate.
University officials commended the work of Torres and the ASI senate for helping provide menstrual products free of charge in advance of the mandatory deadline of the 2022-23 school year, she said.
“Sen. Torres has put a lot of time and effort into the initiative with the stocking and restocking of supplies, and we are grateful for her advocacy and support,” Bell said.
“We sincerely appreciate the proactive leadership of Sen. Torres and ASI as well as the financial support ”” $5,000 ”” ASI has provided to purchase supplies to help launch this program during this time in advance of the mandatory effective date.”
According to California Assembly Bill 367 (AB367), California State Universities are required to stock “an adequate supply of menstrual products, available and accessible, free of cost, at no fewer than one designated and accessible central location on each campus.”
The university intends to be in full compliance with AB367 by the start of the upcoming fall 2022 semester.
