Fresno State Associated Students Inc. (ASI) named their new executive vice president and appointed senators and cabinet members to different positions during their senate meeting on Tuesday, June 1.
Breanna Aguilar was elected the new executive vice president (EVP). Aguilar had the majority of the votes over David Klein, the other candidate for the position.
“I wanted to have an impact of more than what I wanted going into college,†Aguilar said. “I was always shy, but I wanted to make a difference.”
One of Aguilar’s main goals heading into the school year is to make campus feel more inclusive for everyone along with providing safe spaces, especially with many transitioning back to in-person classes.
“Small spaces are safe spaces,†Aguilar said. “You can go into a group you feel extremely comfortable with and have common interests with and start to branch out that way.â€Â
Aguilar also met new ASI president D’Aungillique Jackson for the first time at the senate meeting. Aguilar said she is excited and respects the work Jackson has done.
“She is an amazing woman, I have heard of all of the amazing things she has done. As well with diversity, equity and inclusion,†Aguilar said. “She is a welcoming person. She can be very serious, at times, but she does it when it’s needed. But once you get to know her, she is just an amazing person doing amazing things and I can’t wait to work with her and have her push me further and me push her further as well.â€Â
Additionally, new ASI senators and cabinet members were also appointed to their respective positions.
