Fresno State head softball coach Linda Garza has taken a leave of absence, Fresno State athletics announced Friday afternoon.
Garza did not make the team flight heading toward Colorado State. Instead, assistant coach Jodie Cox was named interim head coach.
“Fresno State softball head coach Linda Garza has taken a leave of absence. Assistant coach Jodie Cox has been named interim head coach. No additional comments will be made at this time,” a Fresno State athletics spokesperson said.
Fresno State won both games in its doubleheader on Tuesday, defeating Santa Clara University 9-0 and 17-3. The team extended its winning streak to five games.
The Bulldogs are currently in first place in the Mountain West at 8-1, 22-7 overall. They are currently tied with UNLV for first place in the Mountain West.
Garza has a 146-77 overall record at the helm for the Bulldogs. Prior to coming to Fresno State in 2016, she served as the head coach at UC Riverside.
Cox, a CSU Fullerton graduate, has been on the Bulldogs coaching staff since 2017. According to her bio on Fresno State softball’s page, she is an assistant coach and the primary pitching instructor for the team.
