For the first time since March 13, Fresno State Athletics opened its doors to the general public over the weekend.

Fresno State Athletics announced Tuesday afternoon that they will be expanding their capacity to 20% effective April 17.

“I’m excited for the opportunity [to play in front of fans],” Fresno State quarterback Jake Haener said. “Hopefully we can get this place [Bulldog Stadium] rocking on Aug. 28.”

In the past, tickets were only available for selected members of coaches and players, but now tickets will be open to the general public. The sports remaining in the spring season are baseball, softball, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, lacrosse and track and field.

Within hours of tickets going on sale, Saturday’s softball doubleheader against St. Mary’s sold out.

Brenda Veenendaal attended the doubleheader, and she bought her tickets as soon as the announcement was made. She said the process to get a ticket went smooth, despite tickets selling out quickly.

“We’re excited to get back here and support the community,’ Veenendaal said. “The team is really great. It’s a good full-circle moment.”

Fresno State alumnus Elliot Meme, who attended more than 300 Fresno State games during his tenure as a student, said that he still plans to attend as many games as he can while also adapting to his new post-graduation life.

“Fans can create a lot of energy and home field/court advantages for our teams that translates into more wins and better records,” Meme said. “I’m hopeful the valley will really come out and support the ‘Dogs like never before after such a long hiatus of being able to attend games in person.”

Sunday’s baseball home game versus San Diego State was announced as a sell out. Matthew Personale said he attends almost every single Fresno State baseball game.

“I was bored out of my mind last year and really sad,” Personale said. “Coming back was like Christmas Day.”

After their doubleheader sweep on Saturday, interim softball head coach Jodie Cox talked about the importance of having fans.

“This is the greatest group of fans,” Cox said. “The greatest stadium ever, we think. So having our fans and having the support and hearing, you know, our songs and all that fun stuff. But the energy was just unbelievable. Even with 20% [capacity], it was unbelievable.”

Men’s and women’s tennis, lacrosse and track and field will be based on a 20% capacity level. Fans will be allowed admission as long as there is still seating availability.

Tickets went on sale for $5 Wednesday morning for Fresno State baseball and softball and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Each guest is limited to four tickets, and tickets must be purchased online. There will be no gameday walk-up sales.

Fresno State will be hosting the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation lacrosse championships on April 30 and May 1. Those tickets will go on sale April 20.

All spectators looking to attend games at Fresno State must be California residents, according to state guidelines. Concessions will not be available, but fans will be allowed to bring their own food and drinks.
