The Fresno State’s men’s basketball series finale against the Boise State Broncos has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Broncos program, the Mountain West (MW) announced Friday afternoon.

The game will be rescheduled at a later time, pending approval from the MW and both schools. The online press release did not mention whether Fresno State has to deal with any contact tracing or positive cases within its own programs.

Both these teams played on Wednesday, where Boise State beat Fresno State 73-51. Fresno State (5-6, 3-6 MW) is currently on a three-game losing streak, and tonight’s game was called off just a couple hours before tipoff.

This is not the first time the Bulldogs’ season has been delayed due to COVID-19. 

Prior to the start of the regular season, the team had to quarantine for two weeks before finally being able to return to the court.

“It is difficult not being around for the fall and summer,” Fresno State men’s basketball coach Justin Hutson said at the Mountain West men’s basketball media day. 

The Bulldogs opened up the season with an 87-47 victory against William Jessup,  but their next game against the University of the Pacific was postponed after test results were not delivered fast enough to start the game.

Just a couple days later, it was announced that Fresno State had multiple cases of COVID-19 within its program. The team was out of action again for two weeks, missing four games during that span which included opponents like Pepperdine, CSUN and Cal Poly.

The Bulldogs will now fly home from Boise and prepare for the homestand against New Mexico on Jan. 28 and 30.

Fresno State is in seventh place in the MW. They have five more series to play in this season, with notable opponents like San Diego State and Utah State coming into the Save Mart Center.
